CTO Rawalpindi Traffic Farhan Aslam has announced a zero-tolerance policy against one-way violations and other serious offenses, under which a new directive will hold Circle In-charges personally accountable for traffic obstructions and offenses within their jurisdictions.
The policy change was announced by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam on Monday following a meeting focused on traffic management and law enforcement. He issued orders for strict measures against numerous violations, including the use of tinted glass and non-standard license plates.
Mr. Aslam emphasized that in the event of any traffic offense, the offender’s driving license should be checked first. He directed that individuals found without a license should be fined separately in addition to the original penalty.
The CTO reiterated that there would be no compromise on compliance with key safety laws. “The use of helmets for motorcyclists must be ensured in all circumstances,” he said, adding that the use of seat belts should also be enforced.
As a measure to combat pollution, the CTO directed that any vehicle emitting excessive smoke should be impounded at the police station. The vehicle will only be released upon presentation of a fitness certificate.
The new strategy also includes tackling obstructions on the roads. Mr. Aslam stated that action should be taken against encroachments in collaboration with the relevant municipal departments.
Simultaneously, he directed the Education Unit to conduct daily awareness campaigns to inform the public about traffic laws.
“To prevent accidents and ensure orderly traffic, full implementation of traffic laws must be enforced,” Farhan Aslam stressed, concluding that “there is no room for violation of traffic laws in Rawalpindi.”
