Summer vacation in Balochistan extended amid rains, floods

QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Monday extended the summer vacations being observed in all public and private schools with effect from August 01, 2022 to August 14, 2022 in the backdrop of torrential rains and flash floods in Balochistan.

A notification issued by the Secondary Education Department, Government of Balochistan on August 01, 2022 says that in the backdrop of torrential rains and flash floods in Balochistan, long term summer vacation being observed in all public and private schools at summer zone districts of Balochistan has been extended with effect from August 01, 2022 to August 14, 2022. Rains have played havoc in Balochistan province, where hundreds of schools have been inundated by the floods while routes to many schools have also been delinked.

Hundreds of houses have been turned into piles of rubble by rains and floods, and thousands of people are forced to spend days and nights under the open sky. The flood-hit people are also facing a shortage of food and water. According to a Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) report today, the death toll due to torrential rains and floods in the province had reached 136 so far.
