President asks medical universities for research on coronavirus

Islamabad, May 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): President Dr. Arif Alvi has asked the medical universities to undertake research while following international research standards to address the challenges of health sector, with special focus on diseases like COVID-19. He was chairing a meeting of the vice chancellors of medical universities in Islamabad about the coronavirus.

The vice chancellors briefed the meeting about healthcare initiatives taken by their respective medical institutions in view of the corona pandemic. It was told that the universities have established an information technology infrastructure to provide online education and continue other academic activities. The President appreciated the important role being played by the health professionals and medical universities in the prevailing situation of COVID-19.

Government making all out efforts for opening of industrial, construction sectors: Omar Ayub Khan

Islamabad, May 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): Minister for Power, Omar Ayub Khan has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is making all out efforts for opening of industrial and construction sectors in order to revive economy. Talking to a private news channel, he said keeping in view the condition of daily wage workers and labour community, the government is taking initiatives to provide relief to poor people. To a question about issues in Power sector, the Minister said that some elements living in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not paying outstanding electricity bills while we are also facing line losses issue there.

Islamabad, May 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, Muhammad Usman Dar has said that the spirit of volunteerism displayed by Corona Relief Tiger Force is highly commendable. He was chairing separate meetings through video link with commissioners of Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi divisions. The SAPM appreciated efforts of the civil administrations, especially in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for actively engaging volunteers after formation of required steering committees.

PIA flight to bring back Pakistanis from US on May 17

Islamabad, May 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): A special PIA charter flight carrying stranded Pakistanis will depart from Newark, New Jersey for Lahore on Sunday. This would be the third flight to bring back stranded Pakistanis from the US. The government has asked PIA to operate more flights from the US for repatriation of Pakistani citizens.

Prime Minister reviews prevailing situation following Covid-19 pandemic outbreak

Islamabad, May 11, 2020 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Imran Khan says the government eased the countrywide lockdown phased wise to maintain balance between economic activities and protective measures against Covid-19. He was chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Monday to review prevailing situation following outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The prime minister said imposition of lockdown is being considered as temporary arrangement against Coronavirus at international level, and protective measures are the only viable option to overcome the pandemic. Imran Khan directed the authorities concerned to prepare a comprehensive strategy regarding provision and usage of ventilators to Covid-19 patients in the hospitals. During the meeting, the prime minister was given a detailed briefing on the prevailing Covid-19 situation, number of patients, provision of safety equipment to paramedical staff and doctors in various hospitals.

Usman Dar presents report about Corona Relief Tiger Force to Prime Minister

Islamabad, May 11, 2020 (PPI-OT): Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and presented the first report about Corona Relief Tiger Force after its establishment in the country to cope the pandemic. He also briefed the Prime Minister about cooperation of provincial governments and registration statistics of tiger force and said that Tiger Force is helping in registration of unemployed segment of society at Union Council level.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the report and directed the SAPM to continue coordination at provincial level in this regard. He also directed to continue the process of mobilizing the youth across the country in phase-wise.
