Protection of public’s health Govt’s foremost priority: Shibli

Islamabad, May 11, 2020 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz says protection of public’s health is foremost priority of the government. In a tweet on Monday, he said we will have to encourage people and create awareness among them to adopt the effective weapon of precautionary measures to protect themselves from coronavirus. The Minister said he held talks with PROs of all the ministries through video conferencing. He said the role of Information Officers is of vital importance during the coronavirus pandemic.

Pakistan ahead of other South Asian countries in terms of testing capacity for Covid-19: Foreign Minister

Islamabad, May 11, 2020 (PPI-OT): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged political parties to act responsibly and furnish positive suggestions for incorporation in the national strategy to deal with the unprecedented challenge of coronavirus pandemic. He made the remarks in the National Assembly on Monday whilst initiating discussion on a motion moved by Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan regarding Coronavirus.

He said the current situation warrants a united approach whilst rising above any other consideration. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is ahead of other South Asian countries in terms of testing capacity for Covid-19. He said the country’s testing capacity per day has gradually been enhanced to twenty thousand which was one hundred when the first case of the contagion was diagnosed on 26th February.

He said we have also made seventy labs fully functional. He said our effort is to further enhance the testing capacity for the virus. The Foreign Minister said the decision to ease restrictions was taken after consultations with provinces. He said given the economic situation, the country cannot afford prolonged lockdown.

Referring to the bias against Muslims in India, the Foreign Minister regretted that RSS inspired ideology is demonizing its Muslim population for the spread of coronavirus. He said Pakistan condemns the hate speech and hate mongering against the Indian Muslims. Speaking on the motion, PML-N Leader Khawaja Asif feared the coronavirus cases could spike in the coming days. He suggested that a committee of the House be formed to examine the facilities made available at quarantine centres across the country.

Participating in the discussion, Minister for Communication Murad Saeed said it is a matter of great satisfaction that the country has domestically started production of sanitizers and masks. He regretted that the health sector was neglected in the past but the present government has now enhanced its capacity in a short span of time.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appreciated the efforts put in by the provinces to fight the spread of coronavirus. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said we are ready to work together with the federal government to save lives and protect the economy. The house will now meet on Wednesday at twelve noon.

Information Minister launches “Masks for All” campaign

Islamabad, May 11, 2020 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz on Monday launched a campaign “Masks for All” as part of government’s measures to contain Covid-19. Talking to media after launching the campaign, he said under the campaign, Chainstore Association of Pakistan in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will distribute five million masks across the length and breadth of the country. The Minister emphasized that challenges posed by Covid-19 can only be addressed through national unity and concerted efforts.

Prime Minister monitoring Covid-19 situation on daily basis: Shibli Faraz

Islamabad, May 11, 2020 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz says number of Coronavirus cases declined in Pakistan owing to timely measures taken by government. Addressing a Covid-19 video conference under aegis of Sustainable Development Policy Institute on Monday, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan is himself monitoring the prevailing situation of the pandemic on daily basis.

He said the government constituted National Coordination Committee on Coronavirus and the National Command and Operation Center to review the latest situation, update masses on Covid-19 situation and chalk out strategies against the virus. He said the government formulated countrywide quarantine facilities without wasting time and provided protective equipment to frontline paramedical staff and doctors engaged in treating patients in the hospitals.

President, Prime Minister, Senate Chairman, Chief of Army Staff inquire after health of National Assembly Speaker

Islamabad, May 10, 2020 (PPI-OT): President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa telephoned National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser to inquire after his health. Speaking on the occasion, they expressed good wishes for the speaker’s health and prayed for his early recovery.

PPPP Leader Syed Naveed Qamar and other Parliamentarians also called Speaker and inquired about his health and wished him speedy recuperation.
