Governor State Bank of Pakistan visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with his team

Sialkot, November 09, 2020 (PPI-OT): Dr. Reza Baqir, Governor State Bank of Pakistan visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with his team including Ms. Seema Kamil, Deputy Governor, Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Managing Director SBP BSC, and Mr. Arshad Mehmood Bhatti, Director Exchange Policy Department.

Mr. Qaiser Iqbal Baryar, President Chamber welcomed the delegation of the State Bank of Pakistan and appreciated the initiatives of the State Bank of Pakistan taken during the COVID-19 pandemic under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Reza Baqir. Various issues including Access to Finance for SMEs, Establishment of EXIM Bank, Back to Back L/C, Settlement of time-barred DLTL Cases, Mechanism for payment of DLTL Claims, Special Financing Scheme for Sialkot Tannery Zone, Payment Gateway for Exporters, Reforms in Trade Offices of Commercial Banks and Cash Margin on Imports were discussed. Mr. Baryar briefed the Governor that the industry of Sialkot had full potential to double its exports in the years to come yet required the support of the Government.

Dr. Reza Baqir, Governor SBP, while addressing the business community, lauded the role of Sialkot in the National Economy. He assured his all-out support to the Exporters and said that his team would always be there to enhance linkages and to resolve the issues of the Industry. He said that SME Financing and Export Promotion were his biggest priorities and that the State Bank of Pakistan would always strive to facilitate the Industry.

The Governor also gave a briefing on various facilitative measures taken by the SBP to promote Industrialization and businesses across the country. All of the issues taken up by President Chamber were deliberated upon at length by the senior management of SBP including Ms. Seema Kamil, Deputy Governor, Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Khan, MD SBP BSC, and Mr. Arshad Mehmood Bhatti, Director Exchange Policy Department.

President Sialkot Chamber hails the decision of PKR 21 billion power subsidy

Sialkot, November 04, 2020 (PPI-OT): Mr. Qaiser Iqbal Baryar, President Sialkot Chamber, in a statement given to the press, hailed the decision of the PKR 21 (B) power subsidy, announced by the Honourable Prime Minister H.E. Imran Khan. Mr. Baryar, thanking the Government, said that the subsidy would help the industrial sector, especially the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to rehabilitate and expedite the industrial growth of the country.

The President Chamber briefed that the decision was being welcomed by the business community of Sialkot as it was a much-needed relief that would make the goods competitive in the international markets. Appreciating the vision of the Prime Minister to increase exports at all costs, Mr. Baryar said that the announcement was a testament to the same commitment of the premier.

He further added that Sialkot Chamber has always been an advocate of the provision of cheap and uninterrupted supply of electricity to the manufacturing cum export sector. “Minimum off-peak hour electricity tariff for SMEs would provide a stimulus to the industry and would ultimately increase exports” he added. Mr. Qaiser Iqbal Baryar assured the Prime Minister that under his leadership, the industry of Sialkot would perform well in the global markets and would play their part in achieving the targets set by the Federal Government.

Abdul Razzak Dawood visited Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Sialkot, September 14, 2020 (PPI-OT): On September 12, 2020, Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood, Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, and Investment, visited The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Malik, President SCCI, welcomed the Advisor to the Chamber and appreciated the role of Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood in supporting the Export Sector amidst the COVID-19 Crisis. Availing the opportunity of the presence of the Advisor, Mr. Malik stressed on the need of extending the LTLD and DDT Schemes for the next 3 years along with the rate of Drawback to be enhanced from 3% to 7%. The President Chamber was of the view that extension in LTLD and DDT Schemes would provide a much-needed impetus to the Export Sector that was finding its way towards recovery after the lockdown and disruption of international supply chains.

Proposals like exempting samples worth USD 500 from levy of Customs Duties, Approval of PKR 45 (M) from EDF for the sustainability of the landmark project of Child Labour Elimination Program (CLEP) for the next three years (2020-2022), the release of previously approved PKR 37.5 (M) (2018-19) for CLEP, Reforms in Export Processing Zone Rules, came into the discussion as Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Malik addressed the gathering.

Mr. Muhammad Usman Dar, Advisor to PM of Youth Affairs, speaking to the occasion extended his gratitude to Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood for visiting the Sialkot Chamber and his active role in support of the business community of Sialkot. He added that Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood had always recognized the importance of Sialkot city in uplifting the economy of Pakistan. He assured the business community that he would continue to play his role as a bridge between the business community of Sialkot and the Government.

Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood, Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, and Investment, while addressing the members of SCCI, hailed the city of Sialkot as the most vibrant entrepreneurial regions of Pakistan. He said that he always regarded Sialkot as the most unique city that could spearhead the export-led growth of the country. While sharing his views on the points raised by the President Chamber, the Advisor to Prime Minister said that he was cognizant of the issues of the industry and would ensure all possible measures are taken to address and resolve the same.

He said that the Ministry of Commerce was in fact the ministry of the business community and all the right policies in the best interest of exports would be formulated. He requested that a delegation led by President Chamber should visit the Ministry of Commerce to further discuss the issues and proposals in detail to devise necessary strategies for their resolution.
