Business delegate from Belgium pays visit to Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Lahore to discuss business opportunities with Pakistan

Lahore, July 11, 2018 (PPI-OT): A business delegate from Belgium paid a visit to Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Lahore to discuss business opportunities with Pakistan. Mr. Dieder Van Reil expressed that Pakistan is a safe country for trade and economic activity. Mr. Riaz Ahmad, Director General, told that TDAP has been endeavouring to provide assistance to the business forums to help enhance the pace of trade development of the Country.

He mentioned that EU is Pakistan’s largest export market representing 34% of exports. Belgium accounted for 9% of total EU imports from Pakistan. Pakistan’s, major exports to Belgium are cotton fabrics, synthetic textiles, readymade garments, hosiery, bed linen, fish and fish preparations, sports goods and leather clothing.

The DG further said that under Emerging Pakistan initiative as envisaged by Mr. Younus Dagha, Secretary Commerce is a way forward in focusing and projecting the products of the country abroad which will subsequently help in enhancing the trade volume of the country. DG, TDAP, Lahore also informed the delegate that in future also, TDAP would be ready to extend any help required to him related to information of export oriented companies from Pakistan.

The delegate was provided with the requisite lists of bed linen and Pillow covers manufacturers and exporters of Pakistan. The delegate was grateful to TDAP for support, hospitality and sharing of data of export oriented companies as he required. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks.

TDAP, JICA to organise SPORTEC (sports exhibition) in Tokyo from 25th July to 27th July

Islamabad, July 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and Japan International Cooperation Agency are jointly organizing first ever TDAP sponsored sports exhibition in Tokyo, JAPAN namely SPORTEC starting from 25th July to 27th July, 2018. In the event, 30 companies of Sports Sector of Pakistan are participating. These companies will exhibit variety of Sports related items in the exhibition ranging from soccer balls to martial art gears and sports wears.

Before departing for the event, a pre-departure session was organized by Directorate General Office, North Division, TDAP, Sialkot in the Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association Auditorium Hall on 3rth July, 2018.The meeting was Chaired by Mr. Masao Otsuka, JICA Advisor to TDAP and participated by Office bearers of PSGMEA, TDAP officers of Sialkot and Karachi region and representatives of exhibitor firms of SPORTEC Fair.

During the Pre-departure session JICA Advisors briefed the exhibitors about the sports industry of Japan and the business culture of Japan. Ms. Mei Sato, JICA official informed about the visa process of the Japan embassy and answered the queries raised by the exhibitors regarding the documentation of the visa process of Japan. The pre-departure meeting session was highly appreciated by the PSGMEA and local exhibitors. The meeting ended with a vote of thank from the chair.

Mr. Qamar Zaman holds second meeting of Institute Management Committee at Cutlery Institute of Pakistan Wazirabad for revival of institute

Karachi, June 14, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mr. Qamar Zaman, DG TDAP North held second meeting of Institute Management Committee at Cutlery Institute of Pakistan Wazirabad for the revival of institute. The Institute is dysfunctional since 2013 and the Committee is mandated to devise strategies for its revival and sustainability by taking administrative and operational reforms. DG TDAP North announced hiring of a Project Director as first priority followed by devising curriculum and training modules with the help of National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).

The members of IMC visited the institute to priorities revamping of the facility and procurement of modern Machinery. The institute was founded in 1993 with EDF funds by MoC and Cutlery Manufacturers Association and is meant for skill development of the cutlery sector. It is estimated that there are around 20k workers alone in the cutlery sector of Wazirabad. Proper training and skill enhancement and exposure with marketing and designing institutes can turn the cluttered cutlers into leading brands and manufacturers.

Ground Breaking Ceremony for the expansion and re-modelling of the Karachi Expo Centre

Karachi, May 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): Secretary Commerce, Mr. Muhammad Younus Dagha performed the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Karachi Expo Centre on 31st May, 2018 at the premises of the Karachi Expo Centre in a function attended by a large number of traders and industrialists of the country, members of the diplomatic community, and other senior government officers of the city. The Secretary Commerce in his speech to the gathering informed the audience that the present Expo Centre at Karachi is being expanded and re-modelled with setting up of new facilities like 3 more exhibition halls (at present the Centre has 6 halls), building of a convention Centre for holding trade related functions and conferences, a multi-storey IT tower for offices and building of other facilities like parking plaza etc.

Further, the Secretary informed the audience that the purpose of expansion of the Expo Centre was not only to modernize the present centre but also to create capacity for meeting the increasing trade related needs of the country in view of the trade objectives of the Govt. to earn ever more foreign exchange for financing the developmental needs of the country. Secretary commerce also emphasised that the expansion and up gradation of the KEC will meet major shortcoming in the trade related infrastructure in the country.

The secretary appreciated and applauded the role of trade development authority of Pakistan to have pursued the project and completed legal formalities diligently with in short span of time. He told that ministry of commerce through video conferences with missions abroad has achieved much. The hurdles are identified in these conferences and through collective expertise they’re removed to enhance trade. Secretary commerce also lauded the role of business community in putting in their all out efforts to increase the exports of the country this year ( 2017/18), which have increased overall by 14% from July to April.

About the developments on the trade front, the Secretary told the gathering that there is broad based expansion in the exports of the country this year in terms of both product sectors and destinations. Over all from July to April this year, our textile and clothing export has shown a growth of 8% over the same period; agro food has grown by 30% for the same year; and other sectors like mineral and metal, engineering goods and surgical instruments have also respectively grown by 120%, 13%, and 14%. Besides, exports have also increased to USA, UK and China by 17% (USA) and 8% each (UK and China).

In addition, the Secretary Commerce informed the audience that the expansion of the Karachi Expo Centre was not an isolated effort of the Govt.but, last year, Ministry of Commerce had launched an initiative titled “Emerging Pakistan” with a view to promote various strengths of the country and dispel negative stereotypes about Pakistan, abroad. The secretary apprised the gathering that ECC of the cabinet has approved the three year expansion for PM’s Export Enhancement package and hoped that the same zeal would be shown to complete the project within scheduled time. Building of IT tower is special feature of the expansion and upgradation of the KEC, which will meet the needs of the service sector, he hoped.

The function was also addressed by Mr. Inam Ullah Khan, Secretary, TDAP who gave a brief overview of the Karachi Expo Centre where we have held many national exhibitions where select buyers are invited from around the world in order to show them the entire range of products made in the country. In order to address that need, present KEC is being expanded and modernized in order to create a capacity for holding larger exhibitions for the country. He also was of the view that the intended expansion of the KEC was in keeping with overall up-gradation of the infrastructure of the country under the CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor); and the expanded KEC will provide export outlet to the series of special economic zones being established under the CPEC program in the country.

First Single Country Exhibition Chile

Karachi, May 29, 2018 (PPI-OT): The first Single Country Exhibition of Pakistan is being organized in Santigo Chile at Estacion Mapoccho venue. Chile is considered as high income stable economy in latin America. The Pakistani Exhibition has attracted thousands of buyers in it. Today is the third day. M/s. Euro Football Sialkot has received an order of 10, 000 footballs. M/s. Ghamza Industries got an order of 5000 shirts today.

Yesterday, the company made a deal and as per the company information from June it will continuously supply shirts up to 50,000. M/s. Zuni (Shabbir Textile) finalized US $ 3000/- as test deal. M/s. Santex Industries received an order of US$40000. Many people have shown a great interest in Pakistani composite stall where the clothes of Pakistani Fashion designers are being displayed.

A boutique has asked for purchase of all composite – Fashion Designer products and 50 more pieces of every item. In addition, there is sale of thousands of dollars of many products on many stalls. The details of which will be shared after the conclusion of the event.

Ministry of Commerce through EDF Board releases Rs. 20.400 million for Establishment of Date Processing Plant at D.I. Khan through in 2006

Karachi, May 25, 2018 (PPI-OT): In order to establish Date Processing Plant at D.I. Khan under directives from Standing Committee on Commerce and Textiles, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan had convened meetings with relevant members of working group associated with DPP at Circuit House, D.I. Khan. The meeting was attended by relevant stakeholders at D.I. Khanviz, Dhakki Dates Growers Cooperative Society, D.I. Khan Chambers of Commerce, Department of Agriculture Extension, University of Agriculture, Gomal University, SMEDA and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

Ministry of Commerce through EDF Board had released Rs. 20.400 Million for Establishment of Date Processing Plant at D.I. Khan through in 2006. The project was not implemented due to the lack lustre performance of Pakistan Horticulture Company.

There was a consensus in meeting dated May 15, 2018 on establishment of DPP at D.I. Khan among all stakeholders except location of plant. In order to move forward, it requires Feasibility Report, Nomination of Implementation Group and Technical report on suitable location within/near D.I. Khan for establishment of DPP.

The Planning Commission has also approved project of Establishment of Dates Research Institute at Dhakki area in D.I. Khan in 2018 through University of Agriculture, D.I. Khan. It is pertinent to mention that dates are cultivated in around 11000 hectors area at D.I. Khan which give 30,000 tons production of dates, out of which 21000 tons dates in 9000 hectors are produced in Dhakki.

Securex and A-OSH Expo, 22-24 May 2018, Johannesburg, South Africa

Karachi, May 23, 2018 (PPI-OT): Securex and A-OSH South Africa is the largest trade show of its kind in Africa and 2018 is the 25th Anniversary edition of the show taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, Johannesburg from 22nd till 24th May, 2018. It is the leading exhibition in the field of security and occupational safety and health. Over 300 exhibitors from 14 countries are displaying their products in this exhibition. This exhibition is the gateway for manufacturers and exporters to broaden their customer base, engage with existing new clients in the industry, increase awareness and advertise their products and services, gain access to latest trends in the industry and boost sales.

In pursuance of the “Look Africa Plan” of Ministry of Commerce focused efforts are being made for promotion of Pakistani goods and services in African continent. Keeping in view the potential in the Occupational Safety and Health related goods in South Africa and due to the concerted efforts of TDAP and Trade Commission of Pakistan, Johannesburg, twelve (12) Pakistani manufacturers and exporters are participating and exhibiting their products in Securex and A-OSH, 2018.

This is the largest number of Pakistani manufacturers and exhibitors participating and exhibiting in any show in South Africa. This was only made possible due to the shift in policy and practical steps taken under “Look Africa Plan” of Ministry of Commerce to present Africa as the area of focus. It was only due to the encouragement and support from Ministry of Commerce, TDAP and Trade Commission of Pakistan that this large participation has become a reality.

The participating companies are M/s Line Red Co-Sialkot, M/s Kame Industries-Sialkot, M/s JNA Group-Sialkot, M/s Alpine Industries-Sialkot, M/s Pakzaib International-Sialkot, M/s American Safety Power Tool (Pvt) Ltd-Karachi, M/s Raheem Impex-Sialkot, M/s JNM Leather Safety Gloves,-Sialkot, M/s Abro Group-Sialkot, M/s MH Export Import-Sialkot M/s MSZ International-Sialkot and M/s White Pak Leather Industries-Sialkot. The products on display premium leather safety products goods including protective leather wear and accessories, protective gloves, safety gloves, working gloves, welding gloves, mechanic gloves and industrial safety garments.

The Trade Commission of Pakistan, Johannesburg made arrangements for successful participation and exhibition of these Pakistani manufacturers and exporters. A pre-exhibition promotional seminar was arranged where thirty (30) importers and suppliers in South Africa in the business of safety products participated. These companies were briefed about the participating companies from Pakistan and the products to be displayed by them.

The B2B meetings of the participating Pakistani companies and visit of their stands by the local businesses have been arranged by the Trade Commission of Pakistan and these meetings and visits will continue for the next two days. Efforts are also made for post-show marketing and advertisement of the participating companies and their products.

Due to domestic rules and regulations, South Africa is a large market of occupational safety and health related products worth over USD 4 billion. It is expected through this exhibition that the exports of these products would get a boost in this market. It is also expected that all these efforts will result in establishing good contacts during the show that will materialize into concrete businesses in future.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr Sohail Khan especially visited the Pakistan Pavilion and met Pakistani exhibitors participating in the exhibition. The High Commissioner briefed the Pakistani exhibitors about the potential of Pakistani products in the South African market and assured complete cooperation and support of the Pakistan High Commission in promotion of Pakistani exports and participation of Pakistani exhibitors in upcoming trade exhibitions in the region. Commercial Secretary Mr Fahad Ali Chaudhary and Deputy Director-TDAP Mr Kaleem Ullah Memon accompanied the High Commissioner in the visit to the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
