High level six member delegation of provincial government of Yunnan Province visits Trade Development Authority of Pakistan

Karachi, May 11, 2018 (PPI-OT): A high level six member delegation of the provincial government of Yunnan Province led by Mr. Na Jie, Vice Chairman, Standing Committee of Yunnan Provincial People’s Congress visited Trade Development Authority of Pakistan today. The Secretary, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan welcomed the delegation and highlighted the role of Ministry of Commerce and TDAP in enhancing bilateral trade relations between two countries based on sustained cooperation, long standing relationship and business to business facilitation in the field of trade and economic Cooperation.

The Vice Chairman Mr. Na Jie briefed about the trade relations between Pakistan and Yunnan Province. He shared the economic indicators of Yunnan province, China having US$ 300 billion GDP with population of 47 million. Yunnan province is in close proximity with South Asia and can play important role in enhancing bilateral trade relations with Pakistan. Pakistan’s exports to Yunnan province stood around US$ 72 million in 2017.

He mentioned that under Belt and Road Initiative of President Xi Jinping, CPEC is an important component. He suggested that bilateral trade can be increased through arranging trade forums, symposiums, exchange of delegations, entrepreneurs’ and official visits between both Countries. He highlighted that Pakistan offers important avenues for investment in different sectors.

The Vice Chairman officially invited the Secretary TDAP to visit China Kunming import and Export fair and China South Asia Exposition, to be held from 12 to 18th June 2018 at Kunming China, and apprised about the scope, objectives of both exhibitions and available opportunities for participants from Pakistan. TDAP is regular participants in the fair and this year, it is participating with 168 booths in the exhibition in different product sectors.

Secretary TDAP highlighted the various issues being faced by Pakistani exporters in getting Chinese Visa. The honourable vice Chairman assured to take up the issue with Chinese embassy in Pakistan. The Secretary TDAP thanked the delegation for their visit and hoped for further enhancing trade relations with Yunnan province of Peoples’ Republic of China. The guests were presented the souvenirs in the end.

Seminar on Export Potential of Guargum on 7th May, 2018 at Mithi, Tharparkar

Karachi, May 09, 2018 (PPI-OT): Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), sub-regional office, Hyderabad organised a seminar on Export Potential of Guargum on 7thMay, 2018 at Mithi, Tharparkar, under supervision of Mr. Ashiq Hussain Khoso, deputy director, TDAP. The seminar was attended by around 120 guar growers and traders of the region and researchers, soil scientists, officers from the departments concerned shared their in-depth knowledge and skills with the audience and highlighted the export potential of this product.

Guargum is a substance made from guar beans which has thickening and stabilizing properties useful in various industries such as Textile industry – sizing, finishing and printing, Paper industry – improved sheet formation, folding and denser surface for printing, Pharmaceutical industry – as binder or as disintegrator in tablets; Cosmetics and toiletries industries, Explosives industry – as waterproofing agent, Fire retardant industry, food industry and Mining.

Dr. Lal Hussain Akhtar, Guar Botanist, Agriculture Research Institute, Government of Punjab spoke on the occasion that Pakistan, being the 2nd largest producer of guar, meets 10% to 15% of world’s supply. Guar, being a crop of arid and semi-arid regions, is also sown as a major crop in Tharparkar. He emphasised that there should be a research institute in Tharparkar helping the growers to increase the yield by introducing the promising seeds.

Dr.Jhaman Das, PHD in Guargum told that Agriculture Department in Tharparkar district has estimated total kharif production of the crop in 2011 at about 7,20,000 maunds cultivated over an area of about 6,00,000 acres. Agriculture experts working are of the view that production of guar could be increased many times more in the area. There is also need to set up a guar-gum processing industry in Tharparkar for its direct export.

This will help gain optimum economic returns on the product benefiting local producers. The representatives of Sindh Horticulture Research Institute, Department of Agriculture Research / Extension, Department of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, Agriculture University etc also shared their research and skills.

Mr. Azhar Dahar, Director General, TDAP elaborated the export potential of guargum and its possible socio economic impact on lives of the people of Thar. He said that Trade Development Authority will encourage the progressive growers of Guar to further enhance its quality to compete with other competitors. Director General, Product Division also said that TDAP Hyderabad team is available to assist progressive growers of Thar in their queries and ensure every possible support from available resources of TDAP.

Seminar on “Initiative Program to Control Food from the Source”

Karachi, April 12, 2018 (PPI-OT): Trade Development Authority of Pakistan organized a series of 3 day seminar in Karachi on “Initiative Program to Control Food from the Source” in collaboration with AMD (Agriculture Market Development) for creating awareness regarding UAE market for exporters of Agro related products. Dubai Municipality Experts gave presentations pertaining to UAE’s requirements for agro/food related imports (SPS/Documentary requirements). These seminars were focused on explaining different types of contraventions that exports from Pakistan fall in to as well as documentary requirements of UAE compliance regime.

The first day of the series was focused on Agro products (Fruits and Vegetables), the second day was dedicated to Meat, Poultry, Fisheries and related products and on the final day matters related to Rice and Processed food were discussed. All concerned associations, exporters and representatives from government departments such as Plant Protection, Animal Quarantine, and Marine Fisheries Department attended the sessions. These seminars provided a platform for our exporters to clear any misconceptions and to raise their concerns with Dubai Municipality Experts which will have a positive impact on Pakistan’s exports to UAE.

Business delegation concludes three day visit to Belarus

Karachi, April 06, 2018 (PPI-OT):A 04 member business delegation has concluded a three day visited in month of March, 2018. This delegation was a follow up of negotiations made under Belarus-Pakistan Textile Forum “BELTEXLEGPROM 2017”. The delegation comprised of 03 government officials, one each from Commerce Division, Textile Division and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and 01 representative from Pakistan’s Textile Sector.

The delegation met with the Belarusian Deputy Ministry of Industry, Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During this visit, Pakistan has included Pharmaceutical and I.T products along with Textile made products for possible trade opportunities in Belarus. Belarus is producing world class woollen products which are in demand in the Pakistani market.

There are opportunities for exporters from both countries to establish joint ventures as Belarus Manufacturing units are highly sophisticated and state of the art. In order to enhance the bilateral trade ties between the two countries, further deliberations are expected to be held in the next session of Joint Economic Cooperation of Pakistan and Belarus scheduled in November 2018.

Seminar on Web Based One Customs System held

Karachi, March 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), sub-regional office, Hyderabad organised a seminar on WeBOC (Web Based One Customs developed by Pakistan Revenue Automation Ltd in 2011) on 29th March, 2018. Regional exporters and the representatives of trade bodies participated. The seminar aimed at enlightening the exporters about WeBOC system that is for filing Goods Declaration (GD) for import and export cargo. Mr. Fazl e Rabi, User Support Officer, PRAL gave an elaborate presentation covering WeBOC System, its salient features and future roadmap.

Since, this system, being online process, features paperless method. It improves ‘doing business’, reduces customs clearance and port dwell time, maximises revenue collection and shares WeBOC information with regulatory authorities concerned. WeBOC Coverage is currently extended to 54 locations. 80% import clearance and 83% export clearance are being processed through this system.

78213 users have been registered in WeBOC. It is also integrated with stakeholders, traders, terminal operators, freight forwarder and federal and provincial governments. It facilitates in examination and assessment process. Future roadmap includes 100% WeBOC coverage, up-gradation of WeBOC and National Single Window. Presentation was followed by question and answer session.

The exporters, Mr. Jaffar Abbasi, M/s Haji Ayoub Abbasi and Sons and Mr. Ahmed Hussain, M/s Saba Traders shared that the WeBOC registration is very simple, provided the required documents are complete. Mr. Khalid Malik, M/s Al-Hamd Apparel appreciated the automated system.Mr. Ziauddin, Vice-President, Chamber of Commerce, Hyderabad briefed that Dry Port Hyderabad is currently dormant. Goods Declaration is filed in Karachi; whereas, exporters of this region should have this facility here.

Mr. Kareem Adil, Deputy Collector, Customs, asked the exporters and traders to visit Customs office so as to discuss and resolve such issues. Mr. Imtiaz Qureshi, President, Dadu Chamber of Commerce, showed concern over having no banking channel with some countries, which hampers the trade. Mr. Ashiq Hussain Khoso, deputy director, TDAP, Hyderabad ensured to address the due concerns of the regional exporters and traders to the higher authorities and further added that Mr. Inamullah Khan Dharejo, secretary TDAP is immensely dedicated to facilitate the small traders to enter international market and to enhance exports to stabilise national economy.

Pakistani trade delegation holds second business forum in industrial city of Sousse

Karachi, March 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): A Pakistani trade delegation consisting of 8 companies organized by TDAP is currently visiting Tunisia. After completing its business meetings in Tunis, the delegation held its second business forum in the industrial city of Sousse on 29th March 2018. Before the business forum, the delegates met the Governor of Sousse region Mr. Adel Chlioui along with the President of UTICA of Sousse, Mr. M. Ali Ben Yahia. The Governor welcomed the delegates to Sousse region and appreciated the initiative of Pakistani business community to visit the city for the first time.

He considered this visit as the point of start of new era of collaboration between the two countries. He also encouraged the President of UTICA to organize a delegation of Tunisian business community to visit Pakistan in near future. He further proposed to establish a partnership between Sousse and any other similar city of Pakistan to be declared as sister / twin cities. It was also suggested to establish chamber to chamber partnership and under their collaborative initiative organize Pakistan-Tunisian days in both the countries with participation of exhibitors from both sides.

Mr. Zaheer Pervaiz, Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan in Tunisia stated that the Embassy has been working together with UTICA on the initiative of inviting Pakistan trade delegation from the last three months. He showed his satisfaction that their efforts have resulted in the shape of this visiting delegation. He stressed on the need of further collaboration between the economic operators of both the countries in the fields of agriculture, textiles, healthcare, sporting goods and tourism.

He mentioned that physical presence of Pakistani business community in Tunisia will establish trust among the Tunisian buyers and that such initiatives should be continued on reciprocal basis. While agreeing on the proposal of declaring Sousse as twin cities he stated that the Embassy will reply to the proposal after processing it with concerned authorities in Pakistan.

After the meeting the delegates participated in the business forum organized by UTICA which was followed by B2B meetings where the delegates met with their counterparts in order to explore the potential opportunities of business collaboration. The delegation also attended a dinner hosted by the Ambassador of Pakistan in the evening where the heads of UTICA and Sousse Chamber of Commerce were also present. After having their B2B meetings in Sousse on 30th March the delegation will return to Pakistan on the next day.

TDAP sponsored 8-member Electric Fan Manufacturers’ and Exporters’ delegation to visit UAE fromMarch 26-28, 2018

Karachi, March 29, 2018 (PPI-OT): TDAP sponsored trade delegation of electric fans manufacturers and exporters which is on three day visit to UAE from 26th March, called on Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai on the first day of their visit. The Consul General welcomed the delegates and appreciated TDAP’s efforts for finalizing trade delegation to UAE. He wished the delegates best of luck for the business meetings and visits.

The delegates later had a business to business meetings with Pakistani Business council Dubai and leading buying houses in crown plaza hotel Dubai. Pakistan’s Commercial Counsellor in Dubai briefed the buyers about the electric fans industry of Pakistan and its potential. Mr M Afzal and Mr Azhar Aslam from electric fan association discussed about various categories offans being made and exported by Pakistan and said that Pakistan has potential to meet electric fans demand of UAE.

The delegate later attended Pakistan day celebration at Grand Hayatt Hotel in Dubai on the invitation of Consul General of Pakistan. On the second day of their visits, the delegates will visit Abu Dhabi and have business meeting with various business groups interested to meet their electric fans need from Pakistan.
