The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has expressed serious reservations about the 27th Constitutional Amendment, stating that reducing the provinces’ share in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award would be an attack on the federation and provincial autonomy.
After an informal consultative meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Dr. Safdar Abbasi, the alliance’s leaders challenged the legitimacy of the current legislature, stating that a parliament “based on Form 47” has no authority to amend the constitution.
The meeting, attended by key figures such as Syed Zain Shah, Hasnain Mirza, and Muzaffar Khan Brohi, maintained that the proposed amendment is an attempt to distort the Constitution of Pakistan.
GDA leaders also heavily criticized the Peoples Party, accusing it of subjecting Sindh to 17 years of deprivation, corruption, and mismanagement.
The participants claimed that for fourteen years, trillions of rupees went into the pockets of Sindh’s rulers, with no benefit to the public.
The alliance reiterated its demand for the establishment of a Provincial Finance Commission, calling it a long-standing desire of the people of Sindh.
It was agreed in the meeting that the people of Sindh are conscious and will not compromise on their rights.
The GDA concluded the meeting by deciding that a high-level meeting of the alliance would be convened soon to formulate a future course of action on the matter.
