Turkish Delegation Eyes Enhanced Economic Ties with Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the recent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to bolster economic relations between Turkey and Pakistan.

He said this during his meeting with a high-level Turkish delegation. Led by Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar, the nine-member group is attending the Pakistan Minerals Investment Summit.

Sharif emphasized the longstanding brotherly relations between the nations and commended the delegation’s presence at the summit as a significant step toward deepened cooperation. He noted the potential for expanding economic ties, particularly following an agreement on offshore oil and gas exploration.

The dialogue fostered commitments to enhance collaboration in the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy. The Turkish delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s ongoing energy sector reforms and expressed interest in its mineral sector, notably in rare minerals exploration.

Energy Minister Bayraktar offered insights from Turkey’s energy reforms and privatization efforts, suggesting these could attract more foreign investment into Pakistan’s energy sector. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Power Minister Awais Leghari, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, SAPM Tariq Fatemi, and other senior officials.
