Two arrested with 2,000 kites in police crackdown

LAHORE: In the wake of increasing kite flying-related incidents in Punjab, particularly in the city, police launched a crackdown on kite manufactures and flyers and arrested two kite makers with 2,000 kites, police said on Monday.

Shafiqabad police got a tip that hundreds of kites were being supplied to other cities in a truck. A police team under Shafiqabad police SHO scrambled to the area where the kites were being loaded in a truck and arrested two suspected kite makers with kites.

The accused identified as Latif and Abdullah were handed over to Investigation Wing to have a clue where those kites were being supplied.

In recent past, many cases of deaths with tike twine were reported and police got mounting calls from the bereaved families and the citizens to check kite flying and arrest those responsible of kite flying related incidents.

Many deaths and injuries have been reported through kite twine in the province after which the Punjab police made a mechanism to check the menace, which used to be the wonderful game of Lahore.
