Moscow: An International Kashmir Conference, organized by Shahid Ghumma, Chairman of the Kashmir Alliance Forum in Moscow, highlighted the ongoing dispute in the Kashmir region and called for United Nations intervention.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the event featured speeches by prominent figures including Lord Nazir Ahmed and Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai. Lord Ahmed criticized the Indian government’s actions following the revocation of articles 370 and 35A, which he claimed were used to impose Governor rule and confiscate land in Kashmir. He argued that the Domicile Law was designed to alter the region’s demographics.
Lord Ahmed also noted the inability of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Muslim governments to convince India to honor its commitments to the Kashmiri people at the United Nations. He expressed hope that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres would facilitate negotiations between India, Pakistan, and the Kashmiri people for a peaceful resolution.
Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai emphasized that the Kashmir issue is inherently political and cannot be resolved through military means. He stated that the Western powers’ deference to India’s military and economic strength has contributed to India’s steadfast stance. Dr. Fai criticized the lack of accountability for the actions of Indian military forces in Jammu and Kashmir and urged for a dialogue to resolve the conflict.
The conference also included addresses from other notable speakers such as Ambassador Malik Nadeem Abid, Secretary General of the International Human Rights Commission, and Ali Raza Syed, Chairman of the Kashmir Council EU. Shahid Ghumma expressed gratitude to the participants and speakers for their contributions to the event.
