In a bid to fortify small and medium enterprises (SMEs) against unforeseen crises, the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has rolled out a comprehensive checklist aimed at enhancing safety and preparedness across Pakistan’s SME sector.
Zulfikar Thaver, President of UNISAME, emphasized the necessity for all SME units to adopt rigorous safety measures to ensure the well-being of their employees. He highlighted the importance of being equipped to handle emergencies that may necessitate immediate medical attention or necessitate temporary shelter.
The checklist, which serves as a ready reference for SMEs, advises maintaining an array of essential safety equipment such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and portable lighting solutions. Additionally, the inclusion of UPS systems and alternative energy sources is strongly recommended to ensure operational continuity.
In an effort to sustain uninterrupted production, UNISAME has urged businesses to stockpile adequate raw and packing materials. Equally crucial is the readiness of logistical operations, necessitating prior evaluations to guarantee seamless functionality.
Furthermore, the Union underscores the significance of having accessible contact information for employees, emergency services like the nearest police station, civil defense, and critical helplines to swiftly address any exigencies.
By issuing this strategic checklist, UNISAME aims to bolster the resilience of SME units, ensuring they are aptly prepared to tackle any emergencies that may arise.
