Untoo seeks UN’s attention to end Kashmiris’ woes

Srinagar, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, jailed Chairman of International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo has sought the attention of the United Nations in ending the woes of the Kashmiri people. Muhammad Ahsan Untoo in a letter addressed to the United Nations informed the UN Secretary General that the people of Kashmir consider him as the only hope for mitigation of their sufferings. He wrote that for over seven decades now, IIOJK has experienced an ugly cycle of repression followed by an explosion of military violence in the form of unprecedented human rights violations in IIOJK.

“The Indian government with the help of its armed forces and police personnel has been pushing the Kashmiri people to the wall, denying them their rights and attempting to crush their desire for self-determination. Unabated human rights violations in every nook and corner of the territory have been the benchmark of the Indian occupation in Kashmir where people see your highness and the Security Council as the only ray of hope.”

The letter further said since the outbreak of popular uprising against Indian illegal occupation in Jammu and Kashmir, hundreds and thousands of Indian troops camping in the territory, have been unleashing the worst form of terror by carrying out grave massacres and atrocities. The letter particularly mentioned the Gaw Kadal, Sopore, Handwara, Kupwara, Khanyar, Bijbehara and Zakoora massacres where Kashmiri people were killed in cold blood, women gang raped and properties worth billions torched.

Informing the UN about the background of the Kashmir dispute, Untoo said, the grim scenario has been repeating itself since the late 1980s, though the roots of Kashmiri disaffection go back to the unfinished business of the partition. “In Kashmir, people are living under the suffocating footprint of the Indian military,” he said and added that while India claims to respect democratic norms, it has used undemocratic methods to suppress the Kashmiri people.
