Wamiq Farooq remembered on 8th martyrdom anniversary

Srinagar, January 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, pro-freedom leaders and organizations paid glowing tributes to teenage, Wamiq Farooq, on his 8th martyrdom anniversary, today. Wamiq Farooq, a 7th class student, was killed after being hit in the head by a teargas shell fired at him by Indian police near Ghani Memorial Stadium in Srinagar on this day in 2010.

Pro-freedom leaders including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Yasmeen Raja, Dewinder Singh, Javaid Ahmed Mir, Firdous Ahmad Shah, Bashir Kashmiri, Umar Aadil Dar, Molvi Bashir Ahmed, Muhammad Yasin Atai, Imtiyaz Ahmed Reshi, Imtiyaz Ahmed Shah, Mukhtar Ahmed Sofi and Imtiyaz Haider as well as Farooq Wamiq’s father, Farooq Ahmad, father of martyr Tufail Matoo, Muhmmad Ashraf Matoo and others visited the martyrs’ graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar and paid glowing tributes to the martyred youth.

The leaders also paid homage to all the martyrs of 2010 mass uprising and demanded an impartial investigation into the killings. They termed the ongoing uprising as referendum by the people of Kashmir against India. The leaders said that India should read the writing on the wall. They added that the anti-India sentiment in the hearts of Kashmiris could not be crushed and they would take their ongoing struggle for securing their right to self-determination to its logical conclusion at all costs.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat leaders including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo and Ghulam Nabi War in their statements also paid glowing tributes to Wamiq Farooq and other Kashmiri martyrs. They said that the sacrifices of these martyrs would not be allowed to go waste and their mission would be accomplished at all costs.
