A man allegedly shot dead his wife in the name of notorious tradition of honour in village Sajjan Mehaisar near Khairpur on Thursday.
According to a PPI report, in Sajjan Mehaisar village, a man identified as Allah Bakhsh, alias Siraj Mehaisar, allegedly shot and killed his wife, Samra Mehaisarr, with a shotgun.
Upon receiving information, police reached the scene, took the body into custody, and later shifted it to a hospital. After completing the necessary legal formalities, the woman’s body was handed over to the heirs.
Pir Goth police said the suspect had been arrested along with the shotgun used in the incident, and further investigation was underway. As of the latest reports, police could not registered the case regarding the incident.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar today sought an immediate report from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khairpur regarding the alleged honour killing of a woman in Pir Jo Goth, Khairpur district.
According to information from the Sindh home ministry, Mr Lanjar directed the police to ensure a transparent, impartial and merit-based investigation into all aspects of the incident.
He ordered that all those involved in the murder be arrested and brought to justice without any discrimination. Lanjar said every effort must be made to ensure justice for the victim’s family. He also directed the authorities to provide the affected family with full legal protection and all possible assistance.
The minister instructed investigators to pursue the case on the basis of modern forensic evidence and strong legal grounds. He said strict legal action should be taken against all those found responsible for the crime in accordance with the law.
Lanjar further directed the police to preserve all evidence and ensure that the case is taken to its logical conclusion. He reaffirmed that violence against women and so-called honour killings would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
