KARACHI:Arif Nizami, President Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has announced to constitute CPNE Press Council Committee for coordination with the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP).
A statement issued by Dr. Jabbar Khattak, Secretary General CPNE said that the approval of setting-up Press Council Committee was given during a recent meeting of Standing Committee of CPNE.
According to the announcement the Press Council Committee’s purpose and its set responsibilities and format perform an active role to chalk out a joint line of action in respect of Code of ethics of Journalism, freedom of press and to examine the functioning of Press Council of Pakistan and to take measures for its overall improvement.
The committee will be liable to inform the Standing Committee of CPNE about its decisions and recommendations.
Mr. Zia Shahid, Chief Editor Daily Khabrain Group, has been appointed as Chairman, and Mr. Anwar Sajidi, Chief Editor Daily Intekhab has been appointed as Deputy Chairman of Press Council Committee, while Arif Nizami, Chief Editor Daily Pakistan Today Group, Ayaz Khan (Daily Express), Rehmat Ali Raazi (Daily Taqat), Tahir Farooq (Daily Ittehad), Arif Baloch (Daily Balochistan Express), Dr. Jabbar Khattak (Daily Awami Awaz), Aijaz-ul-Haq (Daily Express), Aamir Mehmood (Kiran Digest Group) and Hafiz Sanaullah (Daily Frontier Star) would be the members of the committee.
