KARACHI: First heatstroke patient was reported in Cardiac Emergency Centre Landhi; however condition of patient was stable after initial treatment, it was confirmed by Senior Director, Medical and Health Services, KMC, Dr Birbal on Monday.
Dr Birbal, said a 50-year old man, Nazeer Ahmed, resident of Landhi No.3, was reported in heatstroke relief centre established at Cardiac Emergency Centre Landhi. He informed that the patient was discharged from health facility later after treatment. He was suffering from heatstroke but timely intervention saved his life.
He said no death of person was reported in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) run health facilities so far. He informed the body of 45-year-old Mohammad Pervaiz was brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) this noon from New Sabzi Mandi area of the city. He said patient died of heart attack during work but not from heatstroke.
Two dehydration patients were also reported in Heatstroke Management Centre at Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) but they were discharged from hospital after first aid treatment. The patients were identified as Mohammad Anwer 45 and Wahid 36.
The symptoms of heatstroke are throbbing headache, dizziness and light-headedness, lack of sweating despite heat, red and dry skin, cramps, nausea and vomiting, rapid (strong or weak) heartbeat, rapid shallow breathing, confusion, disorientation, staggering, seizures, unconsciousness.
