KARACHI:National Lobbying Delegation on Minority Rights comprising Anthony Naveed, Krishan Sharma, MParkash, Dr Sabir Micheal, Ross Mahtani and Atif Sharif called on Justice ® Majida Razvi, Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission on need for amendments in Christian personal laws including Christian Marriage Act 1872 and Christian Divorce Act 1869.
The delegation also congratulated Chairperson SHRC for extension in her tenure at Sindh Human Rights Commission and commended the efforts and work of the Commission. Furthermore, the delegation also shared that Sindh Assembly had passed historic amendments in Sindh Hindu Marriage Act in May 2018, making it a comprehensive act. However, its rules of business are not yet framed and needs to be expedited.
The delegation also submitted the draft of Rules of Business for Sindh Hindu Marriage Amendment Act, 2018 and Christian Personal Law Bill. After comprehensive briefing/discussions on the draft, the SHRC chairperson extended full support to the minority community and assured of taking up this issue with relevant departments of Sindh government.
