Over 8263 CCTV cameras to be installed in Karachi

KARACHI: More than 8263 CCTV cameras of 4 megapixels will be installed within the limits of Pakistan Bazaar and other police stations in Karachi to ensure more security to the people of Karachi from criminals.

According to the Spokesman for West Police, the cameras, under the safe city project of district West police, will be installed at schools, hotels, marriage halls, mobile phone markets, petrol pumps, post offices, mosques main roads, and other public places. The cameras will be installed after consultation and coordination with relevant stakeholders to address their reservations regarding security.

Special drive is also being carried out against narcotics peddlers and addicts. As many as 105 drug addicts were sent to jail or any rehabilitation centers, he said.

The spokesman said a successful drive against gutka, mawa and manpuri was carried out in the district resulting in seizure of factories of such contraband with arrest of 422 persons involved in this illegal business in last two months.
