KARACHI: Former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar was presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday for registering fake cases against Naqeebullah Mehsud and four others which led to their death in staged police encounters.
Rao Anwar was brought to the court amid tight security.
During the hearing, the investigation officer told the court that Rao Anwar and other policemen filed false FIRs against four people, including Naqeebullah.
The IO said, we want to investigate Rao Anwar in the fake encounter cases and need to have physical remand.
Later, the court accepted IO request and was handed over to police on physical remand till April 21.
A case was registered against Anwar and 11 other police officers in Shah Latif police station for registering false FIRs against Naqeebullah and four others.
Earlier, Anwar was remanded into police custody for a month in Naqeebullah killing case following his arrest.
Anwar was arrested outside the Supreme Court on March 21 after he appeared before the court, following weeks of absconding.
