KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday summoned secretary of agriculture in personal capacity on next hearing on a petition against new support price of sugarcane.
Sugar mills owners challenged the new support prices of sugarcane in the SHC. A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the petition and issued notices to Sindh cane commissioner and other respondents. The bench also rejected the request of sugar mill owners, seeking stay order for new support prices.
The bench remarked that when sugar mills owner did not pay last year’s dues to growers, why they are seeking the stay order?
The court remarked that what would happen if the same support price for sugarcane is set in Sindh and Punjab.
The counsel of the sugar mills owners told the court that without listening to the stance of the sugar mill owner, Sindh government has fixed the new support prices.
The sugar mills owners pleaded for overturning the Sindh government’s notification of the 7th December regarding new support price of sugarcane.
