Musharraf had pushed Pakistan into US-Afghanistan war: Haleem

KARACHI: Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh, said Saturday that lawyers had an important role in Tehreek-e-Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was also a lawyer who created Pakistan, dictator General Musharraf of that time had pushed Pakistan into the war of America-Afghanistan and even lawyers got rid of him by struggle.

This he said while addressing senior lawyers at Malir Bar Association where a gathering of lawyers community was hosted in his honor by senior lawyer Rehman Dino Mahesar who recently joined PTI.

In the gathering, President Malir Bar Association Advocate Abdul Razzaq Solangi, president of ILF Sindh Advocate Riaz Affandi, Advocate Nasrullah Jalbani, Senior Advocate Naeem Qureshi, Advocate Mukhtiar Sial, Advocate Mah Jabeen, Advocate Sohail Awan, Advocate Jamil Chana and other senior lawyers were participated.

Mr Haleem said that today he had brought the case of Pakistan to the lawyers community here. “This war is not my war, and this war is now the war of stable Pakistan and war of real freedom of Pakistan,” he said.

He said now it was not a movement of PTI but it had become a peoples’ revolution and entire nation was demanding fresh, free and fair election as it was the only solution to the current situation, adding the alliance of 12 parties was afraid of elections because the case was now in the court of people who had to decide the fate of the country.

Haleem demanded a judicial commission headed by a judge of Supreme Court to probe into the letter-gate in presence of media while keeping its proceedings open. He said that during the Zardari and Nawaz era, more than 400 drone strikes were carried out in Pakistan and legs trembled on a phone call while a lawyer commenting on the manner in which Emil Kansi was extradited to the United States uttered insulting words for the entire Pakistani nation.

In past, offensive caricatures were issued worldwide but no one dared to speak on issues of Namoos-e-Risalat and Islam, Haleem recalled, adding that Chairman PTI Imran Khan was the first leader who effectively raised the issues at international level.

Haleem said that in the result of USA-Afghanistan war, our 0.8 million civilians and soldiers were martyrdom, there was a lack of faith in the rulers of that time who became enslaved of America even they did not know that 220 million Pakistanis were standing side by side with the Army.

He said if we had not joined the war of USA in Afghanistan, we would not have suffered so much. He said why did America run away from Afghanistan? They wanted massacre of Muslims, and Imran Khan was only one leader who protested against the drown attacks. In Tehreek-e-Pakistan, the people had already thrown out the whites. Today the real freedom movement is going on once again and we will get rid of the whites, he stated.

Haleem said that today, there was a debate whether it was a conspiracy or interference, adding that the nation would decide, it was a conspiracy or interference, as the whole nation has come out in favor of Imran Khan while National Security Committee had proven foreign intervention and the stance of PTI as factual.

He said the United States wanted to make a deal with Imran Khan but Imran Khan replied “Absolutely not” in question asking for Pakistan’s base. He said Imran Khan gave an independent foreign policy. He said the superpower is only Almighty Allah, and we did not afraid of any other power.

Haleem said that horse-trading took place inside Sindh House and there was protest at the gate outside Sindh House but notice was taken only on the issue of gate protest while no one took notice of horse-trading inside Sindh House in which the tax money of the people of Sindh was squandered.

Demanding the authorities of QESCO to end unannounced power outages in Pushtoonabad and other areas of Quetta city, he said that people would be forced to protest against unannounced power load shedding if it was not ended.

Call to introduce start-up culture in varsities

KARACHI: Pasban Democratic Party PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor Saturday demanded of the government to introduce start-up culture in universities so that fresh graduates could be encouraged to start their own businesses instead of waiting for government job.

In a statement, he said: “Joblessness is rising with every passing day. Every year hundreds of thousands of students graduate but majority of them could not find jobs.” He said if we introduce start-up culture in our varsities and higher education centers we can successfully induct our fresh graduates in market. He said with opening their own start-ups these youth could earn a decent living and instead of becoming a burden on their families could happily support them besides playing their due in the nation building process.

He said a startup culture is a workplace environment that values creative problem solving, open communication and a flat hierarchy. In a corporate culture, core values are typically informed by the identity of the company, including its mission statement, products and customer service. In startup cultures, these core values tend to reflect the personalities and ethos of the people who worked for the business in the early days. Because new businesses must adapt quickly to internal and external market pressures in order to survive, a startup culture also promotes business agility and adaptability as being key virtues.

Altaf Shakoor said that start-ups are important drivers of job creation in any economy. He said there are many examples of the countries that attained huge progress and prosperity after training their young generation to open their own start-ups.

He said that there could be no two options that job creation should be at the top of the development agenda, for policy makers as well as for social partners and civil society. This is because labour is more than a factor of production; it is an essential element of any development process, of well-being and social cohesion.

He said labour is the main asset of people; the type of work people hold is one of the most powerful determinants of well-being, as, over their lifetime, most people spend a substantial part of their time at work. Moreover, it is an essential factor of production for firms of all types and sizes. Even in high-tech manufacturing firms, workers bring new skills and competencies to enhance the organization of production or to improve the quality and variety of products.

Altaf Shakoor said that start-ups education and training is an integral part of colleges and universities in the developed countries. He said in these countries in many colleges, education is more likely to lead graduates to launch successful startups. Students who attend these schools could be immersed in a pre-startup culture that rewards non-traditional thinking. They could be developing a startup mindset or connecting to an entrepreneurial network of people.

He said that the governments at federal and provincial level should give liberal grants and incentives for introducing start-up culture in colleges and universities. He said the Higher Education Commission (HEC) should make rules to make mandatory for every student to start his own micro start-up before applying for a degree after graduating. He said now is the time to teach our younger generation to focus on their own businesses instead of running after scarce government jobs.
