Pakistan, Greece discuss combating illegal migration

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sajid Hussain Turi met with Mr Notis Mitarachi, Minister of Migration and Asylum of the Hellenic Republic on Wednesday. The Greek Minister offered sympathies on the recent devastating floods in Pakistan. He offered continued support for relief and rehabilitation efforts. The Federal Minister thanked the Greek Government and its people for their support in flood relief and rehabilitation efforts in Pakistan. Both sides discussed combating illegal migration, promoting legal migration pathways and issues related to the Pakistani community in Greece. President appoints Haji Ghulam Ali as KP Governor

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday appointed Haji Ghulam Ali as Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The President appointed the governor on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday sent a summary to President Dr Arif Alvi to appoint Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Haji Ghulam Ali as the KP governor. In the summary, the Prime Minister referred to Article 101 of the Constitution to advise the President to appoint Haji Ghulam Ali as the governor and sign the Commission of Appointment. Haji Ghulam Ali has previously served as a Senator from March 2009 to March 2015. He has also been a member of Board of Investment and Trade of KP from September 2012 to September 2015.

Dengue claims four more lives in Punjab

KARACHI: The dengue has killed another four people across Punjab during the last 24 hours (Tuesday) amid hundreds of more infections, it emerged Wednesday. Another concern for the authorities is the sharp increase in the number of everyday dengue cases following 452 new infections were reported in Lahore, 49 in Rawalpindi, 12 each in Gujranwala and Sheikhupura during the previous day. As many as 253 cases of the dengue were also reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including 179 in Peshawar. The disease has so far so far killed eight people in the province.

27 more Covid cases detected in Pakistan, no death

KARACHI: As many as 27 persons tested positive for Covid across the country with no death from the pandemic during the last 24 hours, according National Institute of Health (NIH) report issued on Wednesday. According to NIH daily report, no covid death in in the country was reported during the last 24 hours, however, the number of confirmed positive cases surged to 1,574,966 so far while the countrywide death toll from the pandemic stands at 30,630 since the outbreak of the disease in Feb 2020. The report said 27 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Luckily, no death happened from the disease. The covid ratio was recorded at was recorded at 0.41 percent.

T20 Women’s Cricket Tournament commences in Lahore from Nov 26

LAHORE: A total of 13 matches will be played as the T20 Women’s Cricket Tournament commences in Lahore from 26 November. In order to incentivize domestic performers, the best performer of every match will get PKR20,000 and the player of the tournament will bag PKR50,000. The winning team will receive PKR 1 million, while the runner-up will get PKR0.5million. The tournament provides an opportunity to the players to get acclimatized to the T20 format, while it will help coaches and selection committee to select squads for the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s World Cup and ICC T20 Women’s World Cup - both events scheduled to take place in South Africa next year. Two dacoits, local die in bike-tractor collision in Lahore

LAHORE: Two dacoits and a local died in collision between a bike and tractor in Lahore on Wednesday. According to the spokesperson of the Dolphin Force, three armed bandits were attempting to escape after robberies in Mughalpura, Fateh Garh, Tajpura and surrounding areas, while the dolphin officials during patrol gestured the three men riding a bike to stop on suspicion and instead of cooperating with the officials they started firing. The Dolphin personnel kept chasing them, but the bandits were on high speed and the bike got hit into an out of order tractor. As a result of which two dacoits died on spot and one was injured.
