PTI chief, workers should refrain from attacking cities, state institutions: Law Minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that Imran Khan and his followers should accept the lawful decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Addressing a news conference here in Islamabad on Friday, he said the Election Commission, after due process, disqualified Imran Khan for five years. Azam Nazeer Tarar said Imran Khan found involved in corrupt practices. He said the former Prime Minister concealed several things from the Election Commission in his tax returns.

He, however, warned Imran Khan and his workers to refrain from attacking cities and state institutions. Speaking on the occasion, PML-N leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha said today’s verdict proved that Imran Khan was neither honest nor righteous.

Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal said that PTI chairman Imran Khan and his workers can approach courts to get relief instead of resorting to violence and arson. Talking to media here in Islamabad on Friday, he said the five-member bench of the Election Commission of Pakistan, in its unanimous decision, has disqualified Imran Khan.

He said the PTI chief has the option to approach courts for relief if he considers himself innocent. He, however, said that violence, chaos and mobocracy have no space in any civilized society. Ahsan Iqbal said attacks by violent mobs will not be tolerated and Imran Khan should surrender before the law.

Earlier, Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri said Imran Khan and his party should refrain from the politics of chaos and vandalism. Talking to media here in Islamabad on Friday, along-with Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Faisal Karim Kundi, she said Imran Khan should ask his legal team to approach courts if he has any objection on Election Commission’s decision. Speaking on the occasion, Faisal Karim Kundi said Imran Khan had always dubbed others as dacoits and thieves but today he, himself, proved as certified liar.
