Shipping – Port Qasim Expansion To Boost Cement, Clinker Exports

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry today unveiled substantial initiatives to bolster cement and clinker shipments abroad by improving port facilities and operational abilities, concentrating on Port Qasim.

Presiding over a conference, he revealed that a subcommittee comprising representatives from all significant harbors, led by Port Qasim Authority, Rear Admiral Syed Moazzam Ilyas, has concluded essential suggestions to hasten shipment capabilities.

The minister emphasized the pressing requirement to accelerate the development of two supplementary multi-purpose wharves at Port Qasim, which will considerably augment the harbor”s capability to manage outbound freight more effectively.

To aid shipment logistics, blueprints are also in progress to construct an additional warehousing facility at Port Qasim with a holding capacity of 30,000 metric tons. The undertaking is anticipated to commence by late 2025 after concluding required procedures, he appended.

The minister further proclaimed that lasting restoration endeavors on the present warehousing framework will be performed, with culmination aimed for within 4-5 months by December 2025 to guarantee uninterrupted shipment processes.

In a notable progression, the Port Qasim Authority will team up with the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) for prospective utilization of the currently underused Sahiwal dock for clinker shipments overseas.

These actions constitute a segment of a wider governmental approach to reinforce the maritime industry and elevate shipment competitiveness, notably in cement and clinker, adding to financial expansion and commerce advancement, the minister affirmed.
