Trade – New Expo Centers to be established in Islamabad and Quetta for modern national exhibition network: Federal Minister for Commerce

Islamabad and Quetta have been prioritized for new expo centers as part of a national network of modern exhibition facilities planned by the Pakistani government. Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan directed that establishing an expo center in Islamabad and finding land for the Quetta Expo Centre should be the immediate focus.

Khan gave these directives during a briefing by the CEO of Pakistan Expo Centre (Private) Limited at the Ministry of Commerce. The presentation outlined proposals for smaller expo centers across all provinces to bolster local industry, increase exports, and generate trade opportunities.

The minister stressed that Islamabad”s expo center should be the top priority to provide a world-class venue in the capital. He suggested exploring locations within the Pakistan Sports Complex to leverage existing infrastructure and reduce costs. He also emphasized acquiring suitable land for the Quetta Expo Centre, preferably near the airport, for convenient access by international visitors.

The CEO explained that the initial design would be chosen through an open bid process, with construction contingent on funding from the Export Development Fund (EDF), Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), or PC-1 approvals.

Requests for suitable land have been sent to provincial governments and the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Sialkot and Faisalabad have offered locations, while proposals from Sukkur, Hyderabad, and Quetta are under consideration.

The program envisions multi-purpose halls in secondary cities to accommodate exhibitions, business groups, and industry events. International models, including German expo designs, are being studied for adaptable, modular designs in Pakistan.

The formation of a new board for Pakistan Expo Centre (Private) Limited was also discussed to enhance governance and project management. Minister Khan noted that these centers would invigorate local industry, promote exports, and attract foreign investment. He pledged support from the Ministry of Commerce and said cooperation with provincial governments would be strengthened. He instructed the Secretary Industries to provide detailed information on priority areas from each province by next week to finalize decisions and proceed with construction and funding.

This program marks a significant shift in Pakistan”s trade strategy. By combining Pakistan”s affordability with global standards, the government aims to draw foreign investment, boost exports, and update the country”s exhibition framework.
