HEALTH CARDS – 75% of Pakistanis Lack Access to Govt Health Cards

A survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan has unveiled that a significant 75% of Pakistan’s population does not possess a government health card, raising concerns over the accessibility of free medical treatment.

According to the survey report received today, the nationwide survey, which included a representative sample of 1,060 adults from both urban and rural settings across the country”s four provinces, revealed that only 25% of respondents reported having access to a government-issued health card. These cards are designed to provide free medical treatment, yet the findings suggest that a substantial portion of the population remains without this crucial benefit.

Conducted from August 02 to August 21, 2025, the study utilized telephonic surveys (CATI) to gather data, maintaining an error margin of approximately ± 2-3 percent at a 95% confidence level. Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, affiliated with Gallup International, carried out this insightful research, highlighting a pressing issue in the country”s healthcare accessibility.

The revelation comes at a time when healthcare accessibility is pivotal, urging policymakers to address the gaps in the distribution and awareness of government health cards. The survey underscores a critical need to expand and ensure equitable access to healthcare resources across the nation.
