The Sindh government is rapidly advancing its projects for electric and pink taxi services to establish a modern and eco-friendly transport system across the province, and is offering a ten-year tax exemption to investors in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone.
In a significant development to advance this initiative, Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has intensified efforts and held a key meeting on Wednesday with a delegation from a leading multinational electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing company. The company’s representatives gave a comprehensive briefing on their latest EV models and technology.
During the meeting, Memon said, “The Sindh government wants to bring innovation to the transport sector through public-private partnerships.” The meeting was also attended by other key officials including Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, MD Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, and CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro.
The Senior Minister emphasized the need to transition towards sustainable transport. He said, “Promoting the use of electric vehicles in Sindh is the need of the hour, so that citizens can have access to clean, safe, and sustainable travel facilities,” adding that the goal is to establish a “robust electric transport system.”
Memon highlighted that vast investment opportunities exist beyond just vehicles, citing the construction of charging stations, maintenance centers, and other essential infrastructure as profitable sectors for the private sector.
He assured that “the Sindh government, in collaboration with the private sector, is creating a framework that will provide full support and protection to investors.”
To attract international firms, Memon specifically presented the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone as a prime location for investment. He announced, “Investors in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone are being given multiple incentives, including a ten-year tax exemption.”
Reiterating his administration’s commitment, the minister declared, “We want more and more international companies to come to Sindh and invest here.” He guaranteed that the provincial government will provide all possible support to introduce services of international standards.
Memon concluded, “Our goal is to launch the electric taxi service in Karachi and all major cities of Sindh as soon as possible.”
