IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon reiterated the police’s commitment to protecting economic activities in the province and pledged to continue indiscriminate action against criminal elements. Collaboration between the Sindh government, law enforcement agencies, and traders is proving effective, and significant resources are being deployed against criminal networks.
According to a report presented by the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Operations, various crimes in Karachi have significantly decreased compared to the previous year. Violent crimes have decreased by 52%, while overall incidents of street crime have fallen by 36%, which is a result of improved law enforcement measures and community cooperation.
Incidents of mobile phone snatching, vehicle snatching, and theft have significantly decreased in the city. The active role of the business community in establishing surveillance systems has been crucial to this success, according to the IG Sindh.
Regarding extortion, out of 118 reported incidents, only 44 were confirmed cases, with an astonishing 87% resolution rate. Police action identified 78 suspects, of whom 43 were arrested and five were killed in encounters.
An effective response has also been seen in kidnapping for ransom cases, with 35 out of 37 abductees being recovered. Efforts are underway to resolve the remaining two cases, which are related to honey-trapping.
