Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani has issued a stark warning to department officials, announcing that any officer failing to perform their duties in preparation for a critical European Union audit mission will be sent home.
According to an official information on Friday, the minister stressed that the nation’s reputation and an estimated $400 million in foreign revenue from fish exports are contingent upon the audit’s success. These remarks were made as Mr. Malkani chaired a significant meeting at the DG office of the Pakistan Marine Fisheries Department, focused on finalizing key decisions for the EU delegation’s visit, which is anticipated by March 2026.
The Provincial Minister highlighted that a favorable outcome from the EU mission would open up international markets for the country”s seafood products, providing a substantial boost to the economy. He urged all affiliated agencies to cooperate fully and work diligently to ensure all preparations are completed to standard.
To streamline oversight, Parliamentary Secretary and MPA Asif Khan has been appointed as the focal person to monitor the arrangements for the EU visit. Mr. Malkani has also directed all department heads to submit weekly reports detailing their progress.
The minister received comprehensive briefings from officials representing various fisheries-related bodies. He reiterated that seafood is a vital part of the country’s economy and that the successful mission is expected to generate approximately 400 million dollars in export revenue.
The high-level meeting included Parliamentary Secretary for Livestock and Fisheries MPA Asif Khan, Secretary for Livestock and Fisheries Dr. Kazim Hussain Jatoi, and Chairperson of Fishermen Cooperative Society Ms. Fatima Majeed. Other participants were DG Marine Fisheries Pakistan Dr. Mansoor Hussain Wasan, DG Sindh Fisheries Marine Dr. Asim Hussain, MD Karachi Fisheries Harbor Authority Zahid Hussain Kemato, along with senior officials from the Works and Services and Fisheries Departments.
