A significant milestone has been set for Pakistan’s critical infrastructure development, with officials agreeing to a July 2026 groundbreaking ceremony for the Karachi-to-Rohri section of the Main Line-I (ML-I) railway project.
The agreement was reached during a pivotal meeting in the nation’s capital between Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, and a visiting delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), here on Friday.
The ADB, led by its Director General Leah Gutierrez, used the session to reaffirm its backing for the comprehensive upgradation scheme for Pakistan Railways.
Minister Abbasi stated that the modernization of the national railway system would play a vital role in promoting the country”s economic growth, improving regional connectivity, and advancing sustainable transport.
Both sides concurred that the commencement of work on the ML-I”s initial section represents a major step forward in the execution of the landmark initiative.
