Diplomats and business leaders from Ghana and Pakistan have agreed to prioritize economic and trade dialogues aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in response to shared global challenges, including inflation and supply chain disruptions. This consensus was reached during a high-level luncheon hosted by the Honorary Consul General of Ghana in the capital.
Hosted by Shahid Rasheed Butt, the Sunday event was attended by a large number of current and former ambassadors, senior government officials, and prominent business figures to discuss matters of mutual interest.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from the regional political situation and global economic conditions to specific concerns such as logistical supply chain issues and strategies for accessing new markets.
Addressing the participants, Consul General Butt emphasized the need to foster public and commercial ties beyond formal diplomatic protocols. He noted that both countries face similar obstacles and opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, energy, services, and small and medium-sized enterprises, and suggested that continuous dialogue is key to exploring practical avenues for cooperation.
Representatives from the business community, including former President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Baser Daud and former President of the Small Chamber Malik Nadeem, stated that such diplomatic engagements are crucial for bridging the gap between policymaking and commercial reality. They articulated that strong trade relations, supported by clear regulatory alignment, are highly beneficial for both exporters and investors.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including the current ambassadors of Morocco and Yemen, the Deputy Head of Mission of Jordan, and the Defense Attaché of the Sri Lankan Embassy. Prominent Pakistani figures such as Faisal Zahid Malik, Masood Khan, and former ambassadors Khalid Masood and Ghalib Iqbal were also present.
