SSGC Chairman Pledges Priority Gas Supply to Industries Amid Shortages

KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) Chairman Asif Inam has pledged to prioritize gas supply to the industrial sector, emphasizing its significance for economic stability. Speaking at a meeting with the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Inam acknowledged recent disruptions due to winter shortages and assured that a comprehensive management plan will be developed to address these challenges.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, the meeting highlighted the severe gas constraints faced by industries, with KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput warning of potential shutdowns due to shortages and low pressure. Asif Inam revealed that new board members familiar with SSGC's operational issues have joined, aiming to improve the supply situation. Acting Managing Director Amin Rajput noted Balochistan's dependency on gas amid extreme weather and expressed hope for improved conditions from February.

The discussions underscored the complexities of gas distribution, with the exit of captive power plants reducing consumption and affecting revenue. Rajput pointed out the decline in domestic gas supply and the limited availability of imported RLNG during winter. He also projected a reduced need for RLNG imports after 2031.

Industry representatives voiced concerns over rising production costs and emphasized the need for close collaboration with SSGC. They called for equitable gas pricing and consistent supply to stabilize operations. The meeting concluded with a consensus on the importance of sustained industrial activity for the country's economic development.
