World Bank President arrives in Pakistan on four-day official visit

High-stakes discussions on critical economic reforms, ongoing water disputes with India, and a potential $20 billion financial support package are on the agenda as World Bank President Ajay Banga began a four-day official visit to the country on Sunday.

The head of the global financial institution is scheduled to hold meetings with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and ministers overseeing finance, energy, and economic affairs.

During these engagements, Pakistani dignitaries will present briefings on key economic reform initiatives and national development project priorities.

Official information reveals the high-profile tour, which continues until February 4, may yield notable progress on the implementation of a 10-year Country Partnership Framework. This long-term arrangement would see the World Bank provide Pakistan with $20 billion in financial assistance by 2035.

Upon his arrival, Mr Banga and his delegation travelled to Hasan Abdal to visit the Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib. The World Bank president was warmly welcomed by Minister for Minority Affairs Amresh Singh Arora and other local officials.

At the prominent Sikh shrine, he participated in religious rituals and was presented with a traditional ‘Siropa’ by the community.

Following the Gurdwara engagement, the delegation proceeded to the Taxila Museum to explore the nation”s rich historical heritage.
