Week-Long Commemoration Begins For 169 Officers Injured In The Line Of Duty

The Islamabad Capital Police have initiated “Ghazi Week 2026” to pay tribute to the 169 officers who have been injured in the line of duty, according to official sources. The week-long series of events, running from 6 April to 12 April, will honour these personnel, referred to as “Ghazis”, across all police divisions in the city.

According to a police report today, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi expressed pride in the force’s courageous personnel. In a statement, he noted that the Islamabad Police have a history of bravery in maintaining peace and described the force as an example of sacrifice and resilience.

A central ceremony was held at the Police Lines Headquarters to mark the occasion, with Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Headquarters, Malik Jameel Zafar, attending as the chief guest.

The event, attended by senior police officials and the honoured “Ghazi” officers, commenced with the hoisting of the national flag and the playing of the national anthem, followed by a one-minute silence to pay respect.

A separate event also took place at the “Rescue-15” facility, attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Islamabad, Muhammad Jawad Tariq, alongside other senior officers and personnel.

During the events, senior police leadership paid homage to the injured officers, stating that these individuals were wounded while performing their duties and were described as a valuable asset to the nation.

Officials further commented that the officers who contributed to the city’s peace have elevated the honour of the police force. They also acknowledged the high respect held for the families of those who have sacrificed in service and affirmed that the “Ghazis” will always be remembered.
