Capital Police Vow Crackdown on Transporters Imposing Excessive Fares

Authorities in the capital today issued a stern warning to public transport operators, vowing to take strict legal action against those found charging excessive fares from passengers, a move announced during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Sarfraz Virk.

The significant gathering, held at Safe City Islamabad, was convened specifically to address the issue and brought together key law enforcement officials and representatives from the Transport Association. Attendees included SP Traffic Majid Iqbal, SP Saddar Zone Kazim Naqvi, and SP CTD Khalid Mehmood Awan, alongside other traffic police officers.

The primary objective of the discussion was to devise a strategy to identify and prosecute transporters engaged in price gouging, ensuring that punitive measures are applied in strict accordance with the law. CTO Virk issued clear directives that no one would be permitted to overcharge commuters under any circumstances.

In a move to bolster public security, the Transport Association was instructed to maintain close communication with the police. They are now required to promptly report on passenger movements and any unusual situations related to transportation to facilitate a swift response from authorities and ensure public convenience.

CTO Virk reiterated that providing quality and dignified travel facilities for citizens is a paramount priority for the Islamabad Police. He emphasised that no negligence or legal violations in this area will be tolerated.

The session concluded with all participants expressing a shared commitment to collaborate on enhancing travel amenities for the public. They pledged to work together to improve the overall traffic system, aiming to make transport in Islamabad more efficient and organised.
