The international commemoration, held on Tuesday, recognizes the ubiquitous presence of this natural textile, which is a fundamental material in wardrobes worldwide.
The initiative for a day dedicated to this vital agricultural commodity was born in 2019. The proposal was brought to the World Trade Organization by four major cotton-producing nations in sub-Saharan Africa-Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mali-who advocated for an annual celebration on October 7.
