In a ceremony remembering the victims of the Army Public School (APS) tragedy, the President of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, today declared that a recent attempt by a “cowardly enemy” to impose war was met with the unified resolve of the nation’s 250 million people and its armed forces.
The statement was made during a special candle vigil organized by the Arts Council to honor the sacrifices of those who perished in the APS Peshawar attack, according to a report issued today. The solemn event, held in the council”s lobby, saw Mr. Shah, members of the Governing Body, and a significant number of citizens light candles in tribute.
Mr. Shah recounted the brutal killing of 130 children and 19 teachers, stating that every single martyr remains etched in the nation’s memory. He emphasized that the Pakistani populace stands united like a solid wall and that the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen only strengthen its collective courage.
Addressing the attendees, prominent poetess Dr. Fatima Hassan expressed the deep pain of the parents who lost their children, whom she likened to flowers. She strongly condemned the perpetrators, asserting that those who took innocent lives were not human but “beasts.”
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the martyrs and a renewed pledge from those present to continue striving for peace, unity, and resilience throughout the country.
