CM Bughti announces plan to procure five lakh tons of wheat

QUETTA: Sindh Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bughti announced on Friday a plan to procure five lakh tons of wheat from farmers in the region this year, allocating Rs5 million for the purpose.

Speaking at a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to review the Wheat Procurement Policy and Plan-2024, Bughti stated that half of the allocated funds had already been released, with the remainder expected to be disbursed within the current month. An additional Rs130.9 million would be allocated for the purchase of wheat bags.

Bughti stressed the importance of providing relief to farmers and ensuring transparency within the Food Department to combat corruption. He acknowledged past irregularities within the department, which had hindered the efficient execution of official duties by its officers.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Food, Haji Nur Muhammad Dumar, Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Balochistan, Imran Zarkoon, Special Secretary at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Asfandyar Baloch, and other relevant authorities.
