Defence Pakistan and Libya to Bolster Defence Ties with Focus on CounterTerrorism

Pakistan and Libya have initiated highlevel discussions aimed at strengthening their military partnership, with a significant emphasis on joint counterterrorism efforts, training, and capacity building, the military’s media wing announced on Thursday.

The toplevel military dialogue featured Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, meeting with the CommanderinChief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar. The discussions also included Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, the Deputy CommanderinChief of the Libyan forces.

According to a statement from the InterServices Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani army chief was received with a formal Guard of Honour presented by a contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces upon his arrival for the official visit.

Talks between the senior military leaders centered on matters of shared interest and the prevailing regional security situation. The delegations explored various avenues to enhance bilateral defence and militarytomilitary collaboration.

Field Marshal Munir conveyed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to reinforcing its defence relationship with Libya, underscoring that the partnership is built on a foundation of mutual interests and respect.

In response, Field Marshal Haftar praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He articulated a strong desire to broaden the scope of defence cooperation between the two nations.
