Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla in a meeting with Brazilian Ambassador Mr. Claudio Lins

Islamabad, April 08, 2019 (PPI-OT): Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla in a meeting with Brazilian Ambassador Mr. Claudio Lins has called for increased Parliamentary exchanges on level of Chairmen Senate, members and the Parliamentary friendship groups. He proposed formulating an experience sharing mechanism between the two Senates to have transfer of technical expertise as well as insight on each other’s working in wake of the new composition of Brazilian Senate. The ambassador called on Deputy Chairman in his chamber here at the Parliament House on Monday. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Romulo Neves, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Senator Dr. Musaddik Malik and Senator Sitara Ayaz.

Both sides agreed on the need of enhancing trade volume between the two countries which stands at a meagre 600 million dollars. The Ambassador informed the Senators that a trade mission comprising of 28 leading Pakistani businessmen is heading to Brazil, in coordination of missions in both countries, this month which will have a meaningful impact in accessing the Brazilian market and will be an attempt to showcase what Pakistan has to sell.

Deputy Chairman Senate observed that Senate of any country being the Upper House of Parliament and having members of professional expertise has the power to push ahead the agendas of the government. Brazilian and Pakistan Senate through more frequent exchanges and effective friendship groups should devise mechanism to enhance cooperation in areas of forestation, climate change, technology transfer, trade and commerce, joint ventures, and adding cultural and environmental element to the cooperation in addition to the commercial aspect.
