Pakistan and Tajikistan have underscored their joint commitment to the swift implementation of the pivotal CASA-1000 energy project, a key highlight of recent bilateral talks aimed at bolstering regional integration and energy security. The consensus was reached during the 6th Session of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) held in the Tajik capital, where both nations pledged to deepen their extensive cooperation across political, economic, and security domains.

A statement from the Foreign Office on Thursday confirmed that the high-level discussions, held from September 29-30, were conducted in a cordial and productive atmosphere. The Pakistani delegation was headed by Additional Foreign Secretary Syed Ali Asad Gillani, while Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Farrukh Sharifzoda represented the Tajik side.

The two parties expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of their relationship, emphasizing the significance of high-level visits to provide fresh momentum. The agenda encompassed a wide array of topics, including parliamentary connections, trade, investment, and consular matters.

Discussions also centered on expanding economic partnerships, with a specific focus on boosting commercial exchange in textiles, logistics, agriculture, food, and pharmaceuticals. This economic push was complemented by the Pakistani envoy’s visit to the Panj Free Economic Zone and the Commercial Customs Facility at Panji Payon to explore avenues for enhanced connectivity.

On the security front, officials assessed their existing collaboration in defence and counter-terrorism, including the exchange of training programs. The dialogue also touched upon regional and global developments, such as the situation in South Asia and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with both sides affirming the importance of diplomacy and the UN Charter for resolving disputes.

During his visit, the Additional Foreign Secretary also engaged with other senior Tajik officials, including the First Deputy Minister of Transport and the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

Looking ahead, both countries have agreed to convene the 7th Session of the BPC in Islamabad in 2026, continuing the dialogue to further strengthen their multifaceted partnership.
