Srinagar, February 03, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court has sought detention record regarding senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Masarrat Aalam Butt, after he challenged his detention order issued against him for 37th time under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA).
A bench of Justice Sanjeev Kumar has asked Additional Advocate General, Shah Amir, to produce the record on next date of hearing. Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, had issued the latest PSA detention order against Masarrat Aalam Butt.
On September 07, last year, a single bench of the High Court had dismissed Masarrat Aalam’s petition challenging his 36th PSA detention order. He had challenged the decision before a division bench and while petition was pending, 36th PSA detention order expired. However, he was not released and taken to Joint Interrogation Centre, Jammu, from Kot Bhalwal Jail, where he was lodged earlier.
The Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla issued a fresh PSA detention order against him and he was shifted to Heera Nagar Jail in Jammu.
Masarrat Aalam was arrested in 2010 following mass uprising and was booked under the PSA. During the 2010 uprising, more than 100 people were martyred due to the use of brute force by Indian troops on peaceful protesters in the occupied territory. Since then he is behind the bars except for few days in 2015. He was detained under the PSA for the first time in October 1990. During the past twenty-eight years, he has been booked under the black law for 37 times.
