Srinagar, February 07, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML) has said that the Indian state is pursuing a revengeful policy against the Chairman of Muslim Deeni Mahaz, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, his wife and their children.
Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo completed 26 years of imprisonment on Tuesday (February 05). He was arrested in 1993 and the Indian authorities have not released him despite recommendations by the government-constituted review boards and committees. His wife, Aasiya Andrabi, is languishing in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail for past several months.
The JKML General Secretary, Muhammad Rafique Ganai, in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “The way Dr Qasim Fakhtoo and his family is standing firm on ‘haqq’ despite revengeful policy of Indian government is highly commendable. Muslim League salutes them for their steadfastness.”
He said that Dr Qasim Fakhtoo had completed his doctorate degree in Islamic Studies in the jail and the government of India was persecuting him for his political views. Dr Fakhtoo has sacrificed and contributed a lot for the ongoing Kashmir freedom movement and guided the people irrespective of their age in the right direction by the wealth of knowledge he is filled with, he added.
Muhammad Rafique Ganai paid glorious tributes to Dr Fakhtoo for his determination, courage and steadfastness and said that the Kashmiri people would never forget his sacrifices. He urged the resistance leadership, High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir and human rights organizations to form a special cell for highlighting the cases of Dr Fakhtoo and other Kashmiri detainees and ensuring their early release.
