Srinagar, June 10, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Global cab service providers, Ola and Uber, are unwilling to start their operations in occupied Kashmir due to the frequent internet shutdowns imposed, time and again, by the Indian occupational authorities in the Valley.
Officials in the IOK Transport department while talking to the media persons in Srinagar confirmed that “the authorities had approached both the service providers multiple times to start their operations in the valley, but the biggest obstacle they say they will face is the internet suspension.”
Ola and Uber have a successful business setup globally owing to their pin-point pickup system and economical fares, all systemised by an efficacious connectivity network using the local internet services. The need to have such cab-service in the valley is being direly felt by local commuters and tourists visiting Kashmir.
“If we can convince them, we would start the service today,” said Asghar Samoon, Principal Secretary Transport department. Transport Commissioner, Dr S P Vaid said his department has already sent the proposal (to start the services in JandK) to the authorities.
