LG employees demand safety gadgets, online salaries

NAUNDERO:Police in some districts of the province are not allowing local government employees to go to discharge their government duties despite being allowed by the provincial government.

This was stated by Hafiz Mushtaque Ahmed Korejo, Chairman, Shah Lateef Local Government Employees Federation, while addressing a news conference at local press club on Friday. He said the Sindh government through a notification had instructed home, revenue, health and local government departments to perform their duties regularly during lockdown, but the police was constantly not only harassing local government employees but were subjected to torture in different districts.

Korejo said safety gadgets had been provided to the doctors, nurses and paramedics on duty but their sanitation staff was discharging their primary cleanliness, antibacterial spraying and lifting of heaps of garbage duties without Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

He said the local government employees’ salaries were already very low which were not still disbursed through online system and deduction from their salaries in the name of any fund would force them to undergo hunger and poverty.

He said instead of paying them double salaries for performing as front fighters cuts in salaries should be avoided. He demanded of IGP Sindh to instruct his subordinate employees to stop disgracing and humiliating local government employees performing public duties in the pandemic.
