Modern sanitation system introduced across Sindh, 3 new models presented

As part of a major new initiative to improve the province’s sanitation system, the Sindh government has directed officials to take legal action, with police assistance, against individuals and vehicles involved in littering and illegal dumping of debris.

This directive was issued today by Minister Nasir Hussain Shah during a high-level meeting of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, where he emphasized that providing a clean environment is a primary objective of the administration.

During the meeting, officials presented proposals for three new sanitation models-Hybrid, Hybrid Plus, and Local-designed to be implemented in all districts of Sindh. These frameworks aim to establish a sustainable and low-cost waste management system.

The proposed system will be operated in collaboration with local and municipal committees, while monitoring will be enhanced at the town level to improve efficiency. It was also proposed to reduce the duration of projects to 3+1 or 4+1 years to cut costs.

The board was also briefed on infrastructure development, including the near completion of modern garbage transfer stations and ongoing construction at the Jam Chakro landfill site, where two cells have been completed.

To support the province-wide strategy, plans are underway to establish additional landfill sites in various districts, including Kashmore, Larkana, Nawabshah, and Sehwan.

Upon successful completion of the Jam Chakro project, officials expect to earn approximately $20 million in carbon credits.

Minister Shah stated that further measures to advance the sanitation goals will be discussed with the Chief Minister of Sindh.

The minister affirmed, “We are committed to making Sindh cleaner and eco-friendly with modern strategies.”
