Renowned historian Professor Dr Ghulam Mustafa Shar has unveiled a groundbreaking revelation concerning the age of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization site, Mohenjo Daro, asserting that it is not merely 5,500 years old, but dates back an astonishing 2.5 million years.

During a lecture titled “New Discoveries: Origin, Ascent and Descent of the Indus Civilization” at the Institute of Sindhology, Dr. Shar detailed how the site experienced several phases of destruction and re-settlement over millennia. He highlighted archaeological findings of weapons and remains that suggest invasions and emphasized the need for further excavation, noting that a mere 8% of the site has been explored.

Dr. Shar also challenged existing beliefs about the local language, arguing it was distinct and undeciphered. He called for a reevaluation of Mohenjo Daro’s significance, proposing it as a hub of scientific knowledge and cultural brilliance. To support further research, he urged for the allocation of funds and global recognition of the site’s historical importance.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman Kumbhati, chairing the session, advocated for collaborative research on Sindh’s history, lamenting the lack of significant post-partition studies. He announced a new policy for issuing academic degrees in both Sindhi and English, underscoring efforts to preserve the Sindhi language amid technological advances.

The event, organized by the Institute of Sindhology in collaboration with the M.H. Panhwar Institute of Studies, attracted numerous scholars and researchers, eager to delve into these new historical insights.
