The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Thursday issued a comprehensive travel advisory ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to ensure safe and smooth travel as millions head towards their hometowns for the festive occasion.

The advisory highlights that the volume of traffic on national highways and motorways increases significantly during Eid, and travelers are urged to follow precautionary measures to avoid inconvenience and ensure road safety.

Key safety guidelines issued by NHMP include: before starting the journey, motorists should thoroughly check their vehicle’s engine oil, water levels, tire pressure, and brakes.

During driving, it is essential to wear seat belts, observe speed limits, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and stay within designated lanes.

Drivers embarking on long-distance journeys should be well-rested. A break of 15-20 minutes is recommended after every 2 to 2.5 hours of driving. Driving in a drowsy or sleepy state must be strictly avoided.

Passengers traveling in public transport vehicles are encouraged to report any incidents of overloading or overcharging to the Motorway Police via the helpline 130. In case of any emergency or assistance, travelers can contact the NHMP helpline at 130.

The NHMP spokesperson emphasized that the force remains fully prepared and committed to ensuring the safety and support of all travelers during the Eid holidays.
