Opposition leader seeks reopening of Iran-Afghan border for trade

Senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader and former provincial minister Mir Muhammad Arif Muhammadhasni today urged authorities to reopen border points with Iran and Afghanistan for the residents of Pakistan’s Chagai district to resume trade with neighbouring countries.

In a statement, he warned that if the closures continued, residents might block the main Pak-Iran highway in protest. Muhammadhasni said that the livelihoods of many Chagai residents depend on cross-border trade, but the border closures have deprived them of crucial income sources.

He added that citizens were planning peaceful protests near the Pak-Iran and Pak-Afghan border areas, specifically in Amri and Baramcha, as they push for the restoration of local trade.
